My Artistic Journey

Creative expression has always been intrinsic to my life, having worked with a variety of media including acrylics, water colour, graphite, lino cut and water based oils. Following retirement in 2017 from Child Protection work, I finally had the space to follow my passion for mid-century design and began a business restoring and selling mid-century sewing boxes using vibrant, internal materials. I sold and shipped my work internationally via the Etsy platform and at the Manchester Vintage Home show, enjoying direct contact with customers. I returned to mixed media work in 2021. My favourite part of restoring wood had been the application of oil which enhanced the wood grain, and so it was a natural progression for me to work with alcohol ink on birch ply panel incorporating collage, later moving onto acrylics to add depth to my work.I began selling my work via Derbyshire Open Arts whilst hosting an Open Studio and have since participated in a range of group exhibitions. My recent projects have included collaboration with Outside In Art in the development of their sustainability website resource.Dreamscape and Earth and Fire were selected due to my use of sustainable materials.

Unique Style & Materials

My mixed media practice focuses on creating contemplative, abstract landscapes using found photographs and sustainable materials, which allows my work to be grounded in nature. I combine acrylics with collage, working intuitively from memories and dreams, allowing the materials at hand to guide the forms and narrative as they emerge.

The Essence of My Work

I explore the emotional parallels between natural cycles and human experience. Soft light, horizon-based compositions and muted tonalities invite viewers into a space of quiet reflection and connection to the landscape. Through recontextualised imagery, my work examines how moments of stillness and drama can be captured across the seasons. I am inspired by exploration of the High Peak moorland and beyond, which provides opportunities for study of the changing light and tonality.

"An emotional, immersive connection to my landscapes which moves beyond the visual."
